At some point every engine will develop leaks from seals and gaskets. If you notice signs of oil in the area between the engine and transmission, you are probably dealing with an oil leak from the main rear seal. See the picture on the left, below.

Rear main seal replacement is a costly repair. The transmission / transaxle must first be removed in order to reach the area where the seal is located. The removal of the old seal is not a difficult job but the installation of the new seal requires some skills.
